Donkey Welfare Symposium

  • UC Davis Conference Center 550 Alumni Lane Davis, CA, 95616 United States (map)

From the USA, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil, to Australia and Africa to the very survival of wild donkey populations is being challenged. So this year The Donkey Welfare Symposium will take on the theme of “Donkeys in the wild" by bringing together wildlife biologists, behaviorists, range management scientists, and advocates from all over the world to address the status of free living Equus asinus. Brand new research on how wild donkeys can help control wildfires, provide positive inputs to agriculture, and actually improve the environment for other wild species will be highlighted. Because part of the Symposium's mission is to improve the way owners and veterinarians handle and raise domestic donkeys, we will explore how natural donkey behavior and physiology can be used to do a better job of training, feeding, and caring for the donkeys that are our responsibility.

The demonstration session at the Animal Science Horse Arena, will be focused on teaching attendees to a complete physical examination. Veterinarians and technicians will work directly with the audience in small groups, with real donkeys, learning how to get accurate, useful information on a donkey's health, using their hands, eyes, and other senses, along with basic medical equipment.

So register for The 2020 Donkey Welfare Symposium, and look forward to some amazing information and lively discussions. Prepare to be challenged by the expert faculty and to have a chance to challenge the decision makers.
